Thesis Projects

Chandigarh College of Architecture has about 1784 B.Arch Thesis and 107 M.Arch Thesis successfully completed by its alumni ever since the first batch graduation in 1966. Many thesis, embodying research, documentation, analysis, design proposal and presentation, on a wide variety of subjects, have won acclaim from external examiners from various parts of India and abroad. Some of the thesis projects are pioneer works in the annals of architectural education in India.

Under Graduate Thesis Studio (10th Semester)

The thesis studio is the final academic exercise that enables students to integrate knowledge from architectural & allied disciplines into a comprehensive design project of their choice, demonstrating independent thinking and professional competence. Final submission consists of two parts: an illustrated report and a design proposal. The report includes a project justification, literature study, case studies, and site analysis, and design programme and design criteria. The design proposal presents a complete architectural solution addressing planning, services, architectural details and other project requirements. The thesis topics may include institutional, residential, commercial, cultural, other relevant projects, including a few oriented towards planning and urban design. Evaluation is based on continuous internal assessments and final external examinations by a jury of academic and professional experts through a University examination. The thesis is stored as a hard copy in the college library.

Post Graduate Thesis Studio (4th Semester)

The M. Arch. Thesis is the final academic exercise of the postgraduate programme aimed at enabling students to apply and synthesize the knowledge, skills, and research acquired during previous semesters into an independent architectural project. The Final Thesis submission consist of an illustrated report and a well detailed and developed design proposal. The report addresses project relevance, literature review, case studies, site analysis, programme formulation, briefs, and design criteria. The design proposal addresses planning, spatial organization, services, and other project-specific requirements leading to a site responsive and sustainable outcome. The thesis is evaluated through periodic reviews, juries, viva-voce, and final external examination by faculty members and invited experts through a University examination. The thesis is stored as a hard copy in the college library
